Schreiber’s Grit and Grease removal wastewater treatment system removes both grit and grease in a common structure. Two parallel rectangular concrete channels combine to separate and collect grit and grease: one to settle grit particles for removal, and the other to collect grease using Schreiber’s patented air-skimming technology. The system meets the specific flow requirements of each facility and handles large fluctuations in flow. The typical detention time at the design peak flow is five minutes.
Grit: A unique, spiral flow pattern scours and washes organics from the grit and deposits the grit in a trough at the bottom of the channel. A pump mounted to a traveling bridge drives the collected grit to an elevated, sloped trough to transfer the slurry to a grit classifier for further washing and dewatering.
Grease: Schreiber’s air-skimming grease removal system directs air onto the surface of the grease channel in the direction of a rotating screw conveyor, which transports floating grease and scum to one end of the channel. As the screw conveyor rotates, lifting the grease for disposal into a collection container, the grease water content is reduced, thus reducing the overall volume of material being transferred for disposal.
